These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Rewrite Your Story (“we,” “us,” “our,” or the “Service”). By creating an account, purchasing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Rewrite Your Story is a guided writing and self-reflection software platform. It asks you questions about your life and uses artificial intelligence to help you produce a personal memoir, delivered as a digital book and, optionally, a printed book.
The Service is NOT: therapy, counseling, psychotherapy, psychological or psychiatric treatment, medical care, crisis intervention, addiction treatment, or professional advice of any kind. Using the Service does not create a therapist–client, doctor–patient, or any other professional or fiduciary relationship. The AI is a software tool, not a licensed professional, and its questions and writing are not clinical guidance.
The Service is not a substitute for professional care. Always seek the advice of a qualified mental-health or medical professional with any questions about your wellbeing.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. The Service explores potentially difficult life experiences and is intended for adults. By using it, you represent that you meet these requirements.
The Service is designed to help you revisit and reframe meaningful, and sometimes painful, life experiences. You understand and accept that using the Service may bring up strong emotions, distressing memories, or psychological discomfort. You voluntarily choose to use the Service with this knowledge and assume all risk associated with that emotional content. You are responsible for your own wellbeing and for deciding when to pause, stop, or seek professional support. The Service includes optional pauses and crisis resources as a courtesy; they are not a safety guarantee and are not monitored by clinicians.
You own your story. As between you and us, you retain all rights to the personal content you provide and to the memoir the Service produces for you (your “Content”). We claim no ownership of your life story or your book.
You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, transcribe, and transform your Content solely to operate the Service and deliver your book to you (including sending necessary portions to our AI and print vendors as described in our Privacy Policy). This license ends when your Content is deleted, except for backups and records we are required to keep.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of everything you input. You agree that you will not use the Service to:
The Service offers tools to change names and identifying details (including pen names and identity masking) to help protect the privacy of people in your story. These tools are aids, not guarantees. You remain solely responsible for what you write, publish, print, or distribute, including any consequences of identifying or making claims about other people. We are not responsible for your decision to publish or share your book.
Your book is generated by artificial intelligence from your inputs. AI can produce inaccuracies, omissions, or phrasings you did not intend. Your book is a work of memory and interpretation, not a factual record. You are given the opportunity to review and revise your manuscript before it is finalized or printed, and you are responsible for reviewing it. We do not warrant that AI-generated content will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any purpose.
Prices are shown at checkout and are one-time charges unless stated otherwise. Payments are processed by Stripe; printed books are produced and shipped by a third-party print-on-demand provider. Print timelines and shipping are estimates, not guarantees.
Because your book is a personalized digital good generated specifically for you, all sales are final once your manuscript has been generated, except where required by law or at our sole discretion. Printed copies are made to order and are non-returnable except for manufacturing defects; report a defect within 14 days of delivery and we will arrange a reprint of the affected copy.
Purchases may fund a gifted journey for another person through partner organizations or a gift code. Gifted journeys are a charitable feature of a commercial product, are not tax-deductible donations, and carry no cash value. We determine, in good faith, how and where undirected gifts are placed.
The Service is a tool for reflection and writing. We make no promise that it will improve your mental health, relationships, circumstances, or any life outcome. Individual results vary.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. You use the Service at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will Rewrite Your Story, its owners, operators, employees, contractors, or vendors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any emotional distress, mental or physical injury, loss of data, loss of profits, or damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, your Content, AI-generated content, decisions you make, or the acts of any third party — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those places these limits apply to the fullest extent permitted.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Rewrite Your Story and its owners, operators, and vendors from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your Content, your use of the Service, your publication or distribution of your book, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party (including claims of defamation or invasion of privacy by people described in your story).
Please read this section carefully; it affects your legal rights. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by a recognized arbitration provider, rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court. You and we waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class, collective, or representative action. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing us within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act governs Section 13.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date; continued use after changes means you accept them.
